Designed to replace the outdated chipjack, a softlink contains all the necessary hardware for the human brain to interpret and utilize skillsofts and datachips, though using Active skillscfts still requires the installation of skillwire systems. Because the softlink adapter can handle up to four chips in any combination, it is no longer necessary to install more than one port to benefit from the use of multiple skillsofts. Like all systems, however, as the processing load increases, so does the system load delay (SLD). The more megapulses the softlink must process, the slower becomes the response time. Calculate softlink system load delay (SSLD) in turns with the formula: SSLD = MpL/l 00 (MpL is the megapulse load, the total number of Mp of information stored in all the datal skillsofts plugged into the softlink). Because the softlink system is external to all other headware systems, SSLD is seporate from headware system delay (i.e., an individual can have two delay numbers, one for his scftlink system and one for the rest of his headware). To decrease SSLD requires the addition of an I/O subprocessor unit. If desired, more than one softlink may be implanted.
